I got a 102 visitors for the inn and a few dozen maps yesterday.

Bit of advice: for a map to show as completed in multiplayer, you have to have found it first!

^ Do you actually have to go into the store to be in range? Or could you, say, just sit out in the parking lot and fire up your DS there? ;) And do you just "get" visitors and maps, or have to actively choose to trade them?

The range on wifi tagging is pretty short, so you'd probably have to go into the store. Don't worry, from my own experience and from what I've heard from others, the events attract people of a wide range of ages. You don't have to worry about being the only person there over the age of 12. As for the maps, you'll get any map that someone you've tagged has chosen to trade with you. You just have to go talk to their little sprite in your inn. Make sure to talk to everyone before you get 30 guests, because once you get more than 30, the game will kick out the first guests you tagged.

Another word to the wise... when you're in tag mode, you can only get three people at a time before you won't get anymore. So once you tag three people at an event, exit tag mode, run out of the hotel, run back in, and re-enter tag mode. It's kind of a pain, especially since Erin asks you if you need tips for tagging people every single time.

I went to the GameStop one and it was quite fun. I live in a (relatively) small city and still ended up with 33 visitors after an hour. We talked a lot, gave each other advice, and some people played together. The goodies were great, too; I received some adorable stickers, a poster, and some other neat things. They were out of the shirts by the time I arrived. And yes, people of all ages were there. I saw some 10 year-olds as well as adults in their forties who brought their entire family, with both the children and parents playing.

I also Tagged some excellent maps. Two S ranked maps and I even got the Masayuki map, which surprised me. I have a feeling the Best Buy event won't be as good, though.

I have been really on the fence on whether I should do this or not. Seems a little too weird...

It was pretty much all adults at the store I went to. Got some mice maps, but I came too late to get a decent number of guests. Though, from what the other participants said, there wouldn't have been enough people to reach 30 anyway.

I'm also disappointed that no Canadian Best Buys will be participating, no Estark map for me I guess. :(

I went to the nearest one to us with my husband and his siblings and it was pretty awesome. We got the Zoma map and I got to share my prized not-quite-Masayuki king metal map with everyone. And there was SWAG. Posters, stickers, slime t-shirts. It's a good time to be a Dragon Quest fan =)

I had fun with this last Saturday. There is another event this coming Saturday, and another at the end of August where I live. I got a free poster and my wife a Slime Tee Shirt.

I got about fifty people for both mine and my wife's copy of the game.

Here is the bad thing I encountered, though:

I spent a couple hundred hours making a badass party. I ran into these guys who used some kind of luck exploit to get all the 2% boss drops and were bragging about how badass they were. I got into a verbal altercation with them where I denounced them as *******.

They were handing out a level 99 treasure map to everyone.

I did not Tag either of them. If you encounter someone who is crazy-high in power and has less than 100 hours of gameplay, they are cheaters. This one guy had over 2k less battles won than I had, but had a character that was max level in all vocations.

I felt like I was playing Phantasy Star Online again for a short while.

To be honest, for stuff that relies more or entirely on luck rather than skill, I'd definitely use something like a RNG exploit to shift things in my favour, after one or two tries without out it anyway. There's only so much repeated boss mauling I can take, not to mention have time for. I'd also share the exploit with anyone that wanted to know.

That said, that doesn't make anyone impressive nor is it something worth bragging about, even if you did it the "right" way; the only one(s) that might have a horn to toot would be whoever worked out the exploit in the first place, since that does take some amount of skill.

Oh my god the guy Nintendo sent to our Best Buy was such and idiot. Right before our eyes as we were telling him not to he deleted the existing game and began a new character on the cart Nintendo sent to the store. We were so mad at him. No one got to download the map because Nintendo hired some dumb rent-a-rep who knows nothing about games to run the event. I still got the King Slime T-Shirt but still bummed about the map. He got our e-mails and said he was going to try to get them to e-mail it, but I don't expect much from that. Going to Anime Weekend Atlanta in September, maybe someone there will have it and I can get it that way. I have been to the Game Stop and Best Buy events and only have 17 tags. Guess not much DQ love in Tennessee. Next event is a four hour drive to Atlanta, so I may have to skip that one.
