Can our brave heroes save Princess Kenny? Is it possible to play for longer than five minutes between fart jokes? Will Obsidian ever finish a game on time?

I'm so torn about this. The gameplay looks hilarious, but SP just isn't my kind of humour.

This entire trailer right here...it is everything I come to know and love from South Park. This game pleases me greatly.

I'm cool with the delay if the result is a better game.

Yeah, I have a similar issue. I love the political/satire/dark humor in South Park, but I really despise scatalogical humour and am not a fan of things like rape jokes. (The elaborate minstrel "yer mom" joke made me giggle, though.) I also haven't actually watched South Park since the '90s. I'll probably end up playing the game anyway, though.

I dunno. This time it sounds less like a quality issue and more of a "we don't want to make an RPG" issue.

    NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

That puts it right with Dark Souls 2 and where the whispers have the timing on a GTA V pc port. That is not good for ya boy. NOT GOOD.

    That's another awesome trailer tho...

What about this announcement or anything we know about either the developers or publisher would give you this impression? Seems like Ubisoft are the only big western studio actually championing this kind of game at the moment.

You're missing out. Ever since the movie was made in 1999, it's only gotten better each year. It's one the smartest comedies on the air right now. They are a fan of scatalogical humor, but more often than not it's just a mask to poke fun at something larger (ie. the voting episode where they have to pick between a giant douche and a turd sandwich, or the Bono episode whose entire plotline is just a lengthy and elaborate set-up to calling him a turd)

If you're going to watch any of the more modern episodes, watch "Make Love, Not Warcraft," "Guitar Queer-o," and "Informative Murder Porn" as all three of those are game-related (World of Warcraft, Guitar Hero, and Minecraft/media-makes-you-a-killer-debate respectively)

HAHAHA... I am so not surprised about a delay. I'm along the mentality of "will this game ever get released?"

The entire announcement explicitly states that it was a quality issue. If Ubisoft's brass didn't care, they could have just farted out the game in whatever state they found it when they bought it. Instead, Ubi is taking the necessary time to get the game up to snuff (though certainly some of that "snuff" could be the opinion of Ubi higher-ups about what makes a good RPG, we don't know) before it's released.

I'd say they also needed extra time to suddenly cancel the Wii U version, but I don't think the game ever had one planned. :)

Other articles I've read include more explanation than this one did. Ubisoft talking about realizing that the game needed a "major overhaul" shortly after they acquired it. That could be just a quality issue, but I think it implies a little more than that.

That said, while Obsidian is by far my favorite developer, South Park is pretty far outside my interests, so I'll likely be passing on this game. The trailer makes the game look pretty good, though. It made me laugh several times . . . which is several more than I expected.

I like about half of South Park's jokes. I dislike the foul stuff though.
The game does look fun and it reminds me of the N64/GCN Paper Mario games.(battles)
Ultimately, It could be a bargain purchase.

I've heard people say it "looked finished" when they played it at a show earlier this year. The promo footage they released looks pretty polished too. Hopefully it's just QA and bug squashing, because the game already looks pretty good.

    Nope. Complete and utter overhaul:
"Within three weeks after acquiring the game, we sadly realized we had to turn this thing upside down if we hoped to deliver the experience everybody wanted," Ubisoft North America president Laurent Detoc said. "It's been such a major overhaul to get to the point where we are that we couldn't let it go, even if that meant missing December."

Hopefully it's still an RPG by the end of it.

Could be old gameplay footage. New trailer does not necessarily mean it was lifted from a current build of the game.

If not, then Ubisoft shouldn't have used words like "turn upside down" and "major overhaul" to describe their current approach to the game.

To be fair to UbiSoft, this WAS originally a THQ joint. THQ was basically circling the drain, and probably didn't care what state the game was in. They just wanted something on shelves to make a quick buck. Obsidian has been pressed to release a broken game before (KotoR II, Alpha Protocol...), so they probably just rushed the piss out of it, but couldn't even get a polished turd out the door before THQ went tits-up. Now that a fiscally stable company has the reins, I imagine they have to go back and make a good game now.

It sounds like that quote is referring to the past. Within three weeks of acquiring the game would have been early this year, when it missed its 2012 release date and THQ filed for bankruptcy. The odds are that A) the gameplay trailer they JUST released is fairly representative of the finished product, and B) this last-minute 3 month delay is simply additional QA time. Three months is definitely not enough time to accomplish the kind of overhaul you're suggesting. I suspect the overhaul is already done, and what people have seen is representative of that.

That, or they never intended to release it for Holiday 2013 and it was all an elaborate joke stemming back to E3: http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q2-2013/061013h.html
