I don't know how well Super Mario 64 would stand up if I played it today, but I remember trying someone's copy of the DS version and really not liking the controls at all.
The D-pad + button controls and touch screen controls seemed to match the N64's analogue stick.

Otherwise you don't have to get the stars in the order they give, but I think I used a guide to work out which was best for the "100 coin" star. (And someone told me about the Winged Cap.)

They normal use a different voice actress for US Luke in Professor Layton games (apparently the European one wasn't very popular). I wonder if they didn't localise it fully due to Capcom's involvement, and/or just so they could release it sooner.

As for the original Zelda I used someone else's world map the first time I played, but was already used to bombing unmarked walls in Zelda dungeons.
However whenever I replay it I just bomb every wall and burn every bush. It is a little time consuming to get the resources/etc though.
