Nick looked shocked as the girl mentioned books from Earth. "Quiet!" he whispered. "Any items from Earth are illegal here in Necros!" He made sure that there was no surprised talking coming from the apartments below him. "Yes, I have books here however, the library is adjacent to my bedroom. I'll leave a note to you all tomorrow when I'm off at work. Oh, and there is only nonfiction here in Necros." Nick said. "Sorry for the abruptness. I'm simply very tired. I'll leave the library accessible to all of you tomorrow." He said as he departed for his room.

Mr. Carter ignored the T.V. and just leaned back in a chair with his hand on his head, pondering. "So," he thought, "It appears that the only way I would be able to return to earth is to become something. . . Inhuman." He was having some difficulting wrapping his head around this, not to mention the fact that he would need to be a human again to return home. "But can I trust all of my companions?" he thought while his eyes darted from face to face. "The good doctor is quite suspicious. After all, what kind of doctor carries poison? And this other kid seems shady, too," he thought while eyeing George. "Perhaps I can learn more about my companions tomorrow." And with that, he went to bed.

The night passed, and the next morning, Desoto rose from his bed and instinctively checked a nearby clock. The thing that caught him off guard wasn't that he had gotten up at 7 in the morning, it was that there were three more numbers on the clock.. "A fifteen o'clock?" Desoto asked himself as he got out of bed and went downstairs. He entered a dining room and found a note from Nick. "Gone to work. Should be back at around 3-ish. If all goes well, things'll be different from now on. Feel free to explore my house. My home is your home. Library's connected to my room. Kitchen's stocked and there's room service in case you want something from the town. I'd advise you not go outside yet without me to accompany you.-Nick." Desoto was intrigued so he went up to the library and looked around at Nick's collection. To Desoto's surprise.. there were in fact no fictional books here.. all of them were encyclopedias, atlases, spell tomes, race guides, history books. "Jeez, guy needs a bit of a pick-me-upper every once in a while.. no wonder he was so hyped about human's coming." Just then, Desoto heard a creak as he stepped on a seemingly loose floorboard. Upon inspection, he found that the floorboard was removable and underneath it was a pile of books Desoto recognized. Robinson Crusoe, Treasure Island, Huck Finn, a full collection of adventure novels.

"Guy's got an itch to see places.." Desoto surmised as he placed the floorboard in it's place and grabbed a book on elemental spells. He then went down to the kitchen table and read as he waited for the others. He wanted to get to know them, but he figured it would be better not to wake them up. So he simply waited and read, occasionally munching on nearby fruit.

Damien awoke shortly after Desoto, his arms reaching towards the ceiling in a feeble stretch as he did. His eyes flicked around the room sharply as he eyed the other guests. One was missing. From the looks of it it was the "idiot" with the sign from earlier. Damien would have given it more thought if he didn't feel something running down his side. "Blood?" He queeried as he looked beneath him. Sure enough his scalpel had placed a small nick in his side sometime during the night. "Well....that's to be expected I suppose. Just a scratch at least." The good doctor rose from his bed, throwing on his lab coat as he exited the room. When he reached the kitchen he took notice of Desoto's presence though he said nothing to the man. Instead he meandered through the cabinets, eventually retrieving a jug of coffee grind, before preparing himself a cup. Rather than read like his "partner" however, Damien simply clicked on the T.V. to watch the news.

Mr. Carter rolled over in his bed and looked at the clock. He, too, was surprised that the clock went up to fifteen rather than twelve. "Well," he thought, "I suppose it's not the most surprising thing I've encountered here."
He got up, read the note, and ventured into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. He noted the book that Desoto was reading. "So," he joked, "can you shoot fireballs yet?"

"Poof.." Desoto said as he faked casting a spell in a very nonchalant manner. "So." Desoto began, looking up from his book toward the two. "What do you guys intend to do? Stay here? Find some way to go home? see what'll happen?" Desoto asked.

After waking up surprisingly well-rested, Ramona shuffled around the house for a few minutes before finding a bathroom. Thank goodness. They have showers. She took a soothing, well-deserved shower and dried off, putting her clothes on afterwards. A few minutes later, she walked into the kitchen holding a spellbook similar to Desoto's, but a bit bigger, as well as a book on Archemedian races. "Hello, boys." There was a pleasant aroma in the air, which came from a clean Ramona's hair. She sat down across from Desoto opening the spellbook, reading to herself, while making idle conversation, particularly towards Desoto. "I see you too want to read up early? Good to know what we can do in this world. I'm glad everyone in the group is taking this well. Some people would go crazy from these revelations."

"I think the ones that did got killed." Desoto said to Ramona. "reading through this book, there's so much stuff about power and being a mightier warrior.. I think the insane here are treated as burdens and killed. We're lucky, we survived.. so I don't think they'll be coming after us as frequently.. we're fit to live here in their eyes... or at least, more fit than the 239 who were killed last night. So, Ramona was it?" Nick said, posing his earlier question to the girl. "What do you intend to do? Find a way home? Stay here? go with the flow?"

We have all died, and instead of going to an afterlife or whereever, we wound up here. If we do find a way back to Earth, who's to say we'll even be allowed back?"

Alexander woke up early, eager to explore this new place. He found the library shortly after, choosing to research all that he could about Necros before he could even begin to feel comfortable here. He poured through Atlases, Directories, and was especially interested in the race guides. He thought about magic for a moment, but concluded it was fruitless. ~I'm more adapt with my hands than I could ever be with my mind...Besides, you can't teach an old dog like me new tricks.~ He explored the rest of the house after more and more of his fellow survivors started entering, eager to find any source of technology he could. He would ask Nick later if he could take something apart, as long as he put it back together.

Desoto was silent for a moment, the girl had a point, but still, the fact that that owl knew about C.S. Lewis, and that Nick had those books upstairs meant that there had to be some connection between Earth and Necros, that the two were still connected some way, and that people could go through. "Just a hunch.." Desoto said.

"Well, even if it turns out to be fruitless, I'd still like to try to go home. After all, I have a wife and a baby, and certainly you all have loved ones too." Kiyoshi woke up earlier than all the group, but had certainly spent the most time trying to get used to his temporary home. It was all so Western, and he had only visited America once. Nevertheless, he finally discovered how everything functioned and was able to properly prepare himself for the day. As he explored Nick's house, he was drawn by the sound of voices and walked in on the group as they were in the middle of discussion.

Kiyoshi walked over to the kitchen table and sat down. He looked over the note and reached out for an apple, mildly surprised that such fruit existed on Necros. He shook it off, knowing that there would be no point in asking. "So, those are some rather large books you two are reading, bigger than my student's textbooks." He chuckled softly, "Are they interesting?"

"Well," said Mr. Carter, slightly annoyed by all of the interuptions, "to answer your question Desoto, I think I might stay here. This is a whole new world for us. And besides, we're supposed to be waiting to get judged and sent to either heaven or hell, right? Well, with that information in mind, it's not to hard to see some of us staying here. It may be risky for us to live here, but it's a risk well worth taking."
Mr. Carter had finished his breakfast at that point. "I think I'll read up a little on races," he said as he made his way towards the library. "Hm. Loose floorboard," he thought as he wandered the library.

The day passed by relatively uneventfully with the different people studying different facets of Necros, by the afternoon, most of them that had read would have a fair grasp of the basic origins of this world and the calendar of it.

Nick arrived home and called together his new roommates.

"Good news everyone!" Nick said as he walked in. "I've just been promoted to a field agent for Dharma! I've also received my historians grant from Vulcan! Do you know what that means?"

    "....enlighten me." Desoto responded.

"It means pack your bags, we're going to begin traveling!" Nick said. "There's only one more person I have to tell about our new plans. We'll be traveling across Necros visiting the different cities and towns from now on. Certainly we'll find some way for you all to return to your world or find a way to more easily adapt to ours. We only need to stop in one more town before we set out on these voyages." Nick sounded very excited about the prospect of going out and seeing his own world.

Not surprisingly, George had not awoken with the others. While the wise flipped through pages of information, George just laid in a daze on the bed. No responsibilities. Just live. It's like being a kid again, only with monsters chasing your ***. The brat chuckled to himself. As he laid there, something tickled his nose. Eggs. George pulled himself out of bed and lumbered to the kitchen, following only the smell. He entered the kitchen and saw Judy cooking. Nurse is cooking. ...This isn't Earth. Those can't be chicken eggs. I'll let her taste test first. Then I'll eat the rest. Like a vulture, the boy hovered around Judy waiting for his chance to strike. Much to his pleasure, Judy's omelet was edible. George played on her kindness and ate the food, but he didn't thank her at all. He saw Nick come in, and the boy grinned. The hunt begins.

Desoto had spent most of the day studying and had begun practicing basic techniques as Nick packed things away for their trip.

"Oh, you guys've begun reading up on magic I see." Nick noted. "Those of you with a Dopplekereft balance will probably learn it faster since we're on your turf. Now then, come along. We've got a train to catch. We'll get you all some new traveling gear in the next city. Ecklesax isn't equipped for journeys."

"Where're we headed to?" Desoto asked the demon.

"There's someone else I've gotta tell about our journey, and for that we've gotta go to Carista, the city of gambling."

With that, Nick led the party out of his house and toward the Ecklesax train station, at which point they all boarded a train and departed for Carista.

(the arrival night. Back in Crowley)

The slums of Crowley were mostly vacant due to the massacre happening over by the stadium. This gave Miguel and his newly assigned team perfect places to hide. Their group parent was a mermaid named Karen Gondor. She may have had power, but she was rather timid. Miguel took advantage of this fact to intimidate the mermaid as he kicked down the door of an abandoned bar and threw the fish inside before he walked in.

"Yo! Anyone here!?" Miguel called out into the empty bar to make sure it was empty before turning back to his teammates. "Told ya it was empty."

A young blond girl followed Miguel in, behind her was a very large, muscular man with scars all over his body.

The girl, Solandra, walked up beside Miguel. "Good, now let's get inside before your racket draws those barbarians back here."

Miguel signaled to the last team member to enter, a bald man with a sly look on his face, to close the door behind them. Miguel approached the bar and tested the fountain for drinks, alas, it worked. He poured himself a drink and sat down at a booth on one end of the bar.

"All right!" He shouted to the other members of his team. "Here's the deal. If you want to find out how we're gonna survive in this world, stay here and listen to me." He grinned, his team had been drastically reduced already. They had used the 'weaker' members to draw attention away from themselves. Apart from the group parent, Miguel knew that these were the team members who were tough enough to do what they had to to survive.

Solandra half-listened to Miguel as she searched the bar for items to cook with. Unfortunately, while the drinks were still okay, the food had gone bad. She sighed and sat down on a bar stool. "Well, seeing as how you've knocked out our 'parent' whatever you've got to say had better be good."

"She's fine!" Miguel called out nonchalantly. " 'ey fish-woman!" He called out to the group parent. "You said this place has a central government right?" He grinned.

".yes... the island of Vulcan.." Karen responded timidly. She hated that she had been bested so easily by a human.

"All right, here's my plan." Miguel said. "We're gonna build up some power, recruit some followers, and take down this island of Vulcan!" He said, laughing at his plan. He knew it sounded ridiculous but he was completely serious about it.

Solandra put her face in her hands and sighed. She had to appreciate his ambition, but she doubted he had an actual plan. "Well,...I suppose that sounds a lot more interesting than being hunted like prey. Besides, I don't care for this freakish world." She sighed, afraid of Miguel's next answer. "Now.. do you have a plan for how to get help and build up power? I highly doubt anyone on this planet would be willing to help us, considering what we've seen tonight."

"You forget girly, we have friends amongst our own race." Miguel said. "The ones that survive tonights hunts are the ones who are fit to join in my cause.. as for the actual plan itself... For now, I'm content to just sit and watch.. I'm sure we'll run into someone powerful enough to help us out if we keep on going."

The group parent began to rise. "Y-you can't just take down the whole of Vulcan just by thinking about it! If you do that it won't give you any sort of political power!"

Miguel didn't even look at the mermaid. "Shut up." He said as if tired of her sentence. "I don't care about that s***. What I'm after is nothing.. I wanna watch this nice and orderly world crumble.. I wanna see what happened tonight happen every night, but on an equal playing field..I want to survive.. and win. and to do that, I'm gonna need help." He began addressing the bar. "Who's in?"

Solandra was among the first to raise her hand. She felt the need for a little revenge, plus, it might be fun seeing this freakish world crumble.

The two men who followed in afterward raised their hands as well.

"I'm in, but what are we going to do about her?" Solandra motioned to Karen with her foot.

"We'll take her along of course. You ain't got a problem with that, do ya flipper?" Miguel asked the mermaid, who began to fear the man's crazed look behind his sunglasses.

Karen shook her head in fear.

"Good!" Miguel said happily. "Now then, tell us everything we need to know about getting stronger in this world."

Mr. Carter had read a fair amount on the various races and had settled on becoming a Crevidexus. If they were going to be travelling all over Necros, it would be better to be someone average. "Well, better grab something to eat before we go," he thought as he finished the chapter he was on.

Within a couple of hours on the train, the party arrived in Carista. The city was covered in neon lights and large buildings of alternating colors. The city felt a lot like Las Vegas. Nick disembarked from the train and led the party to a large casino. "You all are free to gamble all you like. the games are free but you won't be able to keep anything unless you pay to play. The only ones who can do that for now are you Doppelekereft guys. I have to go find someone."

Desoto turned to the rest of the party. He personally had never been to a casino, and didn't particularly care for all the lights and colors. However, what he did find interesting were several people standing towards the back of the casino seeming to observe things with distanced looks. Desoto approached them, however, upon his approach, the onlookers dispersed.

There was in fact, a table for non-gamblers to play a game similar to Texas Hold'em simply named "Hold".

Nick meanwhile, found the person he was looking for. A waitress named Roulette.

"Oh hello Nick. Surprise seeing you here. What can I getcha?"

    "...my favorite.." Nick said nicely.

"Right on it!" Roulette poured Nick his favorite drink.

"I'm gonna be leaving Roule, I probably won't be coming back for a while."

"... The company said yes to your travels?" Roulette inquired.

"Yep." Nick said, trying to remain happy.

"... I'm happy for you! You've wanted this for a long time!" She said to Nick, who seemed more down than her about leaving.

"...I'll be waiting for you to get back..So that when you've done with your travels, you can come in the doors of this place and stay here all night telling me about them.." She ruffled Nick's hair.

"Thanks Roule.." Nick said as he sipped his drink.

Desoto stood on the wall observing people, he smiled at Nick's banter with the barkeep. It reminded him of he and Ginger. He then looked around and saw that a group of teenage looking Necrotians were surrounding George.

"Hey man.. you got any money? We can see your scars and we ain't gotten any good stuff in a while, so c'mon, help a bro out." The teens laughed at George. They knew he was human and probably could not beat them in a fight.

Desoto seemed on edge, he didn't know the kid but Desoto was reminded of the kids back home who got picked on by bullies, so he was ready to help out his fellow human.

"Hmph....You're all pathetic...." Damien grumbled as he brushed passed the teenage necrotians. "To think a human would have any money on him this early into our arrival is just plain iggnorant." The doctor continued shuffling past the men before seating himself by what looked to be a slot machine. "Speaking of money though.....let's see just how effective this doppelkreft power is. Effective in any business venture eh?" Damien smiled as he picked up what looked to be the necrotian equivolent of a quarter and placed it in the slot. No sooner than did he pull the lever than did he feel a small amount life leaving his body.

All at once the slots dinged as two coins clattered out of the tray. At this Damien smiled but decided to again test the ability to ensure that it wasn't a fluke. Once again two coins clattered out of the machine. Satisfied with his control, Damien continued inserting the lot of the coins, doubling them with each pull of the lever until he had amassed a rather small fortune. He was visibly weaker however. In the brief time he had made roughly 100 alle's ((the necrotian dollar so dei tells me)) though he looked to be sweating somewhat heavily. Upon better judgement the good doctor decided it was best to allow his body to recouporate for awhile before continuing.

"Splicing?" laughed George in return. "Come on, I just go here yesterday, punks." George's frown turned into a psychotic smile. His eyes became large, and he stared at them with his head roostered. "These scars aren't from any medical surgery. They are a product of boredom. Just like this!" George drew out of a small knife and sliced his left arm. Blood dripped onto the floor and he bathed the blade in the blood. "I know what you little dip****s are thinking. 'Oh no, the human's got a little knife. Whatever should we do?'" George's sarcastic remark ended with him laughing again. "When we got here, they killed off the diseased ******s. That doesn't mean I'm not *****ed up. On Earth, there's a disease called AIDS. It ****s up your immune system so bad that a simple sneeze could probably kill you. Normally, you only get this virus from having sex with the infected. Guess what, something else carries the disease." George then pointed the blade at the teens. God-****ing-damnit, they're robots. Seriously?! George dropped the nutjob act and became his same old boring punk self. He saw Nick and Desoto come to his aid, but he already knew what he was going to do. George immediately turned and ran, and he ran like the wind. If not for the fact that no one liked him and vice versa, George would be an officer in his state college's cross country running team. George bolted to the exit. Just my luck to go against some machines with only a knife. Yeah, like I'm going to take on adolescent robots with a switchblade. While we're at it, let's send a knight in ****ing armor against a tank. Small fries my ***, demon. Damn, can't believe the bluff didn't work. Maybe it'll work on some douches that aren't made of metal and wire. George reached the exit by the time he collected his thought. "Hey, guards, a little brawls breaking out in there. Shouldn't you go do something about it? Also, why the hell does a casino allow some talking tin cans in? Can't they hack the machines and what not? The guard looked down at George, he did not respond but went over to quell the fight.

Nick and Desoto were holding out farely well. Nick's speed allowed him to parry every blow struck towards him and while Desoto was no speed demon, he did a fair job at blocking the knife blows.

Eventually, the guard arrived and easily lifted the teens up. The teens turned around and began attacking the humongous guard only to have their fingers broken. The guard was a golem. His earthen skin could easily break the metal of a teenage Hosfa. The guard said nothing as he lumbered away and threw the juveniles outside.

Several people looked over toward Nick and Desoto. Murmurs of surprise and interest amongst them at the appearance of humans in their midst.

"Very interesssssting." Said a particularly loud voice from above the group. A very lanky man was above the party, sitting atop some pipes hanging from the ceiling.
