(Is the stun gun touch or ranged?)

"AHHH!!'' Jericho screams as he witnesses what he thinks is LALA's death. "Not good! Not Good! NOT GOOD!" Jericho goes over to the police car. He hits the buttons that made the noise in the trunk. He pulls on the handle of the car. He bangs on the trunk if it refuses to open. "OPEN, DAMN YOU!"

    AGATHA STREET
    MISSION: Defeat Dr. Calamity
    TIME: Around Noon
    ENVIRONMENT: Sunny, Warm

Dr. Calamity cackles again as he watches LALA grip the spider's leg. "Some kind of robot, are you? You must be! Wait...are you a super? Ha! Jackpot! Now I can do some REAL testing!"

Calamity directs the leg to rise again. LALA tries to hold on, but the leg is pulled so quickly from her she can't keep her grip (Failure on 2). She instead focuses on pulling herself out of the hole.

This is when Calamity notices Jericho making all sorts of noise banging on the police car. The mad doctor directs the leg to come down again on LALA's position, but this time it misses, the monstrous thing smashing into the ground just a few feet short of LALA (Failure on 1). Jericho still can't get the trunk open.

"Calling for backup?" Dr. Calamity laughs again, totally misreading Jericho's intentions, and begins flicking a few switches. "This looks like a good opportunity to test the range of the weapon systems."

A pair of long nozzles, unnoticed before, suddenly light up. Small flames flicker at the end of the nozzles.

Koto carries Jim towards a neighbour's yard, but changes her mind when she sees Calamity activate whatever weapon he is planning to use on Jericho (she would have to go near the police car to get around the fence), so she head towards the backyard. She is surprised to find the unconscious hostage taker and another thug lying in the backyard. The young woman, the former hostage, suddenly looks nervous and shakes her head. Koto can also see Tom climbing the spider leg in the back yard.

Tom runs up to the nearby leg, steps onto a picnic table, and leaps at the leg in one seamless charge. The leg isn't moving, so it's easy for Tom to grab a bar of steel and get a good grip. It's a lot like climbing a ladder at this point. None of the spider's electronic's are close to the shell of the leg, so Tom doesn't have to worry about being electrocuted. He begins pounding on one of the bars, but the steel resists his super punch (Steel's Material Resistence of 2 negates all damage). Tom doesn't bother and continues climbing up to the exposed joint.

The joint, still unmoving, sits tantalizingly before Tom like an abandoned $20 (never a $20, but I have a weird thing for finding discarded $10's and toonies). Unfortunately, it's still a piece of metal and will likely resist his attacks...unless there is a way he can deal additional damage with a normal attack (hint), but he may need to risk a check to hold onto the leg.

The other half of the spider's leg is a short and risky jump away, but this leg will take Tom directly to Dr. Calamity.

L.A.L.A. finds her body is not responding as well as it should, likely due to being crushed into the ground by a giant spider robot. The constant damage reports are not making it easier either.

Quickly her priorities are again overwritten as the nozzles light up and the mention of weapon systems is made. A flame-thrower type weapon, L.A.L.A.'s tactical subroutines know. Worse, being attacked by a flamethrower could be dangerous to the local civilians! She'd advise against it, but since Dr. Calamity appears to be aiming for harming people, she keeps her advise to herself, lest she might encourage him.

Instead, she looks for another way up the spider-robot, and that ladder-like leg Tom is on looks mighty climbable. Unfortunately it is occupied, so L.A.L.A. instead moves to a different leg in a similar position as quickly as she can.

Since the doctor is flipping switches to activate the weapon system, L.A.L.A. reasons, that means it is controlled by electronics. L.A.L.A. knows how to hack electronic equipment, so she'll move as quickly as she can to get access and disable the weapons system. Even if it does not negate all threats, it should limit the possible amount of damage done. She makes disabling the weapon systems her top priority, even if it means she is at risk of being crushed by the robot again: human safety is a primary concern.

Koto is still aiming to get the girl and Jim to safety. If there is a fence in the way, she'll blast it apart, hoping that her sounds are disguised by all the other noise.

Once she has Jim and the girl a block or so away, she returns to the scene and surveys the situation before diving headlong into battle. (Although her intent is still probably to disable the legs.)

Koto doesn't so much blast the fence apart as she hits it with powerful soundwaves that cause the fence to vibrate so violently it falls apart. The former hostage is surprised by this, but doesn't freak out and continues to help carry Jim into the next yard. Koto has to blast another fence out of the way, but she eventually gets Jim to safety. She then returns to the battle (about 3 rounds ahead).

Jericho ducks and hides behind the police car.

LALA can't actually see Tom in the backyard, but she runs up and attempts to grab the spider leg used to crush her. Getting a good grip on the leg isn't hard at all, and she begins climbing, but without a port or terminal to plug herself into, she can't hack the spiderbot.

Tom decides to jump from his leg to the upper portion of the spider's leg, but his foot gets caught and he nearly falls off. It takes him a moment to regain his balance, and he has to pull his feet free from the girders to make a proper jump. On his next attempt, he just falls short and frantically tries to get a grip on the girders (Failure on 2 for the jump). Thankfully, his quickness allows him to get the maximum number of hands and feet on the other leg (Thanks to Agile Success on 2) allowing him to get a good grip in place. He continues his climb to Calamity's cockpit.

Calamity is within the retrofitted helicopter's cockpit. It's not sealed, but it's a good 6 ft. jump from the second leg to the cockpit, and Tom is jumping from a lower elevation. It will be risky.

The flamethrower roars to life! Within seconds, the police car where Jericho is hiding is completely engulfed in flames. Jericho manages to avoid the fire and burning fuel, but the extreme heat is enough to singe some of his skin (-1 HP). Jericho stumbles away from the police car.

An alarm suddenly goes off within the police car. There are a few wails, but they quickly subside.

TIP OF THE PAGE: A two is a failure, but it's not the end! Sometimes you get a chance to save yourself when failing on 2. Falling and then grabbing a ledge is an example, or fighting to regain your balance upon landing on the very tip of an edge. These checks will come down to things like strength or reflexes, so if you have a good physical trait, you might have another chance to use them, even if you fail on 2. A 1 is still an outright failure though.

Jericho steps away from the burning police car. He steps out in the open and addresses the Doctor. "Dr Calamity! Stop this nonsense!" He continues to play with the controller hoping the fire weakened the trunk enough for whatever is in it to bust out of it. "What do you hope to accomplish by attacking a neighborhood? Shouldnt you be doing battle with the military? Wouldnt that be a better test of your skill than the police or a few vigilantes?"

Dr. Calamity actually stops to consider what Jericho is saying (Persuasive Success on 2). This gives Tom the time he needs to jump to the cockpit and catch Calamity by surprise.

Unfortunately, Tom can't make the jump: he smacks into the side of the cockpit and falls to the ground (All 1's). Tom knows how to fall "softly" (Agile again), so he isn't injured too badly, but he still gets hurt (-2 HP).

Tom's attempt catches Dr. Calamity's attention.

"What? Some worm is attempting to climb my backside? Fool! You're no match for genius," Calamity yells.

He begins to reposition the spider, lifting the rear legs and shifting away from Jim's house and closer to the street. One leg is in a neighbour's yard, but the rest are now either on the street or in Jim's front yard.

LALA can't hold on while all the legs are banging around like this and falls, but she wasn't that high in the first place.

TIP OF THE PAGE: There is more than one way to skin a cat! Some Traits overlap with eachother for determining successes on 2's. For example, Athletic is the catch-all Trait for jumping, tumbling, climbing, and fighting fatigue, but Strong can also be used for jumps, and Tough may be used for avoiding the debilitating effects of exhaustion (Athletic to avoid getting tired, Tough to avoid feeling the worst of it when you do).

L.A.L.A. finds herself unable to climb up the legs of the spider once again and no access ports appear to be available either. She needed a better plan, so she kicked her current one down the list and picked what was the next best plan according to her tactical algorithms.

Instead she approaches Tom. "Excuse me Mr. Ninja?" she queried "It appears as if you are a strong and agile person. Would you please give me a strong leg up to launch me into the cockpit?" she asked. "I can then hack the spider robot to help end the present danger to the civilian population." L.A.L.A. explained as if she was asking him to pass the salt or hold the door for her.

L.A.L.A. was only the size of a small girl, and though her metal components likely made her somewhat heavier than a girl her size, her armour was nano-tube so did not weigh very much. She reasoned that the ninja-man would be able to toss her higher than he was able to jump himself and since his jump only fell short by a bit, she should be able to make the distance. Then she could hack the spider robot, which was still her most viable strategy for ending the threat: she had calculated that a direct physical confrontation between the spider robot and herself was unlikely to end favourably.

(Ok, that was a bit higher than I imagined it... But if Tom can jump up to smack into the side of the cockput, L.A.L.A. would reason he could throw her to that height - even if her reasoning might be wrong. Sides I don't really have another plan to reach a place where L.A.L.A. can do any good. Climbing doesn't seem to work. If Tom thinks its too high, he can easily tell L.A.L.A. and she'll think up something else ^_^)

Tom's eyes narrow as he sees LALA. "What are you, some kind of AI? That won't work. You're too heavy." Tom looks around for anything that can improve his unarmed strikes before scaling that behamoth again.
(Actually TG, if I were to hit it with two unarmed strikes at the same time, would that damage the metal? If so Tom reverts back to his kill the joints plan, even if he has to make a skill check to hold on whilst doing said pounding.)

(No, because that's two strikes of 2 HP damage each, both of which will be reduced by 2. What I was hinting at was Critical Hits, more specifically a Mighty Strike, which will add 1 point of damage)

"Naked girl?" Dr. Calamity says through the loudspeaker. "Where? Oh, the bold one!"

Now that Calamity has repositioned the spider, he can clearly see LALA and Tom. The ninja goes for the nearest leg, easily grabbing it and climbing up to the exposed joint while LALA stands around asking questions. Seeing Tom jump on the leg, Dr. Calamity directs the spider to lift the leg and it out in front of the cockpit. Tom has little trouble holding on, but he can now see what Dr. Calamity is trying to do: the leg is currently positioned directly in front of the flamethrower.

Jericho has a surprising amount of luck putting out the fire by the trunk of the police car.

Koto now returns to the scene and can see Tom climbing the leg, LALA standing on Jim's lawn, and Jericho putting out the fire on the trunk of the police car.

L.A.L.A. cancels her plan of being tossed up onto the spider robot and picks the next plan in the list: she moves to Jericho to help him open up the trunk. If it is possible, L.A.L.A. will use the car's system to open the trunk, but if not she will pick up something sturdy to use as a crowbar and break it open. She's not exactly sure why Jericho is asking for it, but a request for help in an emergency situation is of high priority!

LALA runs to the police car while Tom has Dr. Calamity's attention.

LALA knows how to open the trunk of the police car, and she can do it in seconds, but the trunk release is currently within the inferno created by Calamity's flamethrower. Forcing the trunk open would probably create a lot of noise, and LALA doesn't know how long Tom can hold Calamity's attention (chances are not for very long), plus it's not that easy to force open the trunk of a squad car.

If LALA is willing to risk the fire, she can have the trunk open in a second. She might be able to do it without getting burned, but chances are good she won't be able to avoid the flames.

L.A.L.A. reasons that she is likely too small to be able to exert enough force if the much bigger Jericho was not able to break the trunk open, plus she does not have the proper tools. Instead, she'll risk the flames inside the car. She also makes a note that maybe her advice to the gentlemen that were sitting on it earlier to go inside the car for safety would not have worked out as well as she'd hoped. Her advise-generation subroutines definitely need a check-up.

He watches in horror as LALA head into the burning car. "I SAID AFTER WE KILL THE FLAMES! AFTER!" He runs over and stops her from going into the car. It's a natural reaction to want to stop a child from burning to death in a car. He forgets that he just watched her get up from being stepped on my a humongous mechanical spider. "You are going to give me a heart attack before we finish off Dr. Calamity! Can we open this thing from in there? Let get the fire out first, then worry about getting it open." Jericho begins beating the flames on the inside of the car with his trench coat.

LALA manages to reach the trunk release before Jericho can grab her, but thanks to his intervention, she manages to get in, and quickly out again, without being burnt (nice one, Drem).

The trunk of the car pops open. Good thing too, because Jericho's jacket isn't nearly as effective on the fire's point of origin and soon finds himself tossing his jacket aside when it catches on fire. This reveals Jericho's full costume (which was changed btw; check out the set-up thread. He's not nearly as dumb looking now, heh). Jericho then runs over to see what's making the noise in the trunk.

He discovers a case. Popping it open reveals a flying robot drone-what appears to be a white, airplane-shaped body covered in sensors and supported by two propellers within a circular housing-and it appears to have been activated. He also finds a flare gun, shotgun shells, a flashlight, a bunch of AAA batteries, and an empty box that once held Static Pulse grenades.

L.A.L.A. looks confused at Jericho. "But you said that after you said to open it." she gave him a stern look. While this was true, L.A.L.A. offered no explanation as to why it was relevant.

She moved towards the trunk "Hello small flying machine! The car you are in is on fire. It is advisable not to stay in the trunk. Would you like help?" she queried the device before helping it out of the trunk.

"You resemble both an airplane and a helicopter." L.A.L.A. informed the machine. "Neither are generally found inside cars." she knew "Can I borrow your body to bring a hazardous situation to a halt?"

If Tom thinks he can jump to the cockpit before he becomes southern fried ninja, then he does so, then Doc Calamity is well overdue for a good beating If not then he either jumps to another leg, or climbs the current in an attempt to avoid the flamethrowers. If he manages to get out of arc of the flamethrowers, then he'll try that a mighty strike on the joint.

Koto decides that now would be a good time to jump into the fray, and unleashes sonic hell at one of the legs supporting the spider robot thing's weight. She'll target a joint area. The sound of heavy metal guitar riffs fills the area as she embraces the true notes of the universe and bends them to her will.

Nobody knows why, but a heavy metal concert starts nearby and fills the air with "music". This is unusual enough to catch Dr. Calamity's attention giving Tom some time to climb the leg. He makes like a monkey and shoots up the side of the leg with little effort (Success on 3).

Koto's musical assault causes the leg Tom is climbing to violently shake. A number of bars and girders shake free and fall to the ground to reveal the wires and machinery within (-1 HP). Tom has a good grip on the leg, and when he reaches the exposed joint, he takes the time to channel his chi into one immense punch (Success for grip already being won). He strikes the joint with all his might (3 damage beats 2 DR for 1 damage total).

The joint doesn't explode. It doesn't get ripped out of its housing and there is no dramatic consequence. The joint simply dents and begins to squeel loudly. When Dr. Calamity attempts to reposition the spider again, there is a grinding sound from the joint and the whole leg vibrates and moves very slowly. The party has successfully crippled the leg.

"Damn you! Where's that music coming from? You! Burn!" Calamity shouts as he fires the flamethrower in Koto's direction.

Koto does her best to get out of the way, and although she avoids getting caught into the main stream of burning gasoline, some of the expanding flames catch her clothes and have begun to burn (-1 HP; you are on fire!).

    In the next round...

This is when LALA opens the trunk and the robot drone appears. The drone doesn't respond to anything she says, but she does notice the robot responds to the controller in Jericho's hands.

L.A.L.A. notices the responses between the controller and the drone "Could I borrow your remote control?" she asked Jericho "I want to connect with the small flying machine." If allowed, L.A.L.A. would attempt to hook herself up with the remote, otherwise she'd hook up with the drone directly. Either way, L.A.L.A. would attempt to manifest herself inside the drone so she could control its body instead of her own damaged one temporarily. Regardless, she would make sure to back up (but not activate) any native programming on the drone in her own body, so that it could be restored properly later.

(Sorry, guys. I JUST got home from work. Stupid critical disaster meetings.)

"Might as well. I was just pushing random buttons anyway." Jericho hands LALA the controller. He takes out the flare gun. He looks around for anything that resembles a weapon that could take the shotgun shells. He may even attempt to put them in the flare gun. "Whatever it is you are going to do, do it quick. And dont fall. Please." He moves away from the burning car and looks for a good moment to shoot the flare gun at Dr. Calamity as a distraction for the others.
