Hehe, I know this is one weird one, but a friend asked me to post this, hehe. What's everyone's opinions about Super Mario RPG for SNES? Haha, it's a pretty wacky game if you ask me. It's not one of my favorites, or even close... but it's not so incredibly horrible ya know. One of those off rpgs... a break from the typical ones. Is it even enough of a rpg to be considered one? Hehe biggrin.gif

I never managed to finish it, I'm afraid. I'll have to go back and try again sometime. I probably still have a savefile, but I think I'll start over....

    What exactly makes it non-RPG-like? o_O;;;;

oh yes. when i was still working at Toys R Us we received a box of Super Mario RPG's and of course i bought 2 copies....anyway, it was certainly very enjoyable with lots of Mario humor. and yes it's been said before but Bowser joining your team was simply genius!

I enjoyed it, not enough to play through it a second time, but it was still time well spent getting through it. It had some genuine laugh out loud moments. I dunno if its just me, but I remember it getting rather hard near the end, when everyone's level was maxed at 30, the last few boss fights were pretty difficult. I played it back in early high school though, so I might have just be uncoordinated. tounge.gif

Perhaps Mallow has been watching from the shadows from the very beginning, deeming the board unworthy to join until this very string came into existence!
Super Mario RPG is one of the great masterworks of video game history. Every time that I play the game, I am in awe of its masterful localization, 3/4 graphics, minigame wonder, sentai parody sequences, and the flawless integration of controller mashin' skill into the very battle system itself.
The simplicity of the game may make it a rather short play, but it's still wads better than Paper Mario! I actually played Paper Mario all the way through in one sitting the first time. (I didn't use a walkthrough, either...)

Another great thing about Super Mario RPG is that it is extremely quotable.

It's an awesomely fun game. And yes, having Bowser on your team was a great idea. He was my favorite character in the whole game, next to Booster, because he is just hilarious.

I think that I could never find a copy with the box, so I had to settle on one with cart/instructions only. mad.gif ...at least it was cheap.

Anyway, the game itself, yeah, I had a blast with... I thought it was very good... pretty challenging in some parts too... the last boss killed me a couple of times before I could finally beat it.

Hehe, guess it wasn't as weird as I thought it might have been. Yeah, it was pretty enjoyable... oh and I didn't mean to sound like I thought it was non-rpg like, I just meant that it being kinda off from most rpgs, that some people might see it as that... not that I do. Geno was awesome... and Peach with her frying pan. wink.gif

Yum, SMRPG quotes! *grins* Them's tasty, I tells ya.

"The young frog, Mallow, who doesn't look AT ALL like a frog, joins Mario in his quest!"

Wonderful wonderful game. Things I liked... I liked that fact that it was so easy. I liked the familiar monsters. I liked the insane humor. I liked Mario's Scooby Doo action. I liked Toad. I liked the Frying Pan. I liked the Axem Rangers. I liked Culex. I liked Samus. I liked MARIOHELPMEMARIOHELPME. I liked the mini-games. I LOVED the puzzles in the final dungeon. I liked Geno. I liked the job at the hotel. I liked the funky 'stache. I liked the bus. I liked the sad, innocent smile of a simple fool. I liked Donkey Kong. I liked Melody Bay. I liked Yoshi's Cookies. I liked the NES sprite. I liked the casino. I liked Link. I liked...

...Gods, I loved that game! laugh.gif

Hehehe, I really liked fighting the little small dojo guy, I can't remember his name... and then the Dark Elf from FF4 was on there, that was awesome! And the Super Jump.... you could go on and on forever... I think I did it for about half an hour once, just to see how much I could do... my eyes were pretty sore for staring so long... haha.

Wasnt the guy in the dojos name Jinx? I can't remember, anyways Super Mario RPG was one of my favorite rpgs of all time. I mean cmon to stick Mario in that world and it actually work is amazing. I believe this was also the last game made on the snes by square. Geno ruled, I love the beetle blaster and the minecart minigames. Bowser was bad ass in that game to. It may not have the most depth compared to most other rpgs but it wasn't made that way. Its a fun, light-hearted, simple rpg. It wasn't supposed to be the next Final Fantasy or Chrono Trigger, just something different and good. laugh.gif laugh.gif

when the game first came out, i played and played until i got to the end.. but i died on the final boss. ?i went six years without playing, then i picked it up a few months ago, and beat him! ?pretty exciting eventhough the ending's story didn't mean much anymore.

Oooooh, I love Mario RPG so much! Most RPGs eventually get to a point where it becomes boring, or a long dungeon with nothing exciting or different in it, or a section that is just no fun at all and I dread playing through in future plays. Not so, for Mario RPG! Every (I repeat, EVERY) location has something unique about it, and there are always lots of minigames and silly diversions.

Also, Mario RPG's battle system has one of my favorite qualities -- hitting the button at the right time in order to strengthen your attack, or defend. FF8's gunblade trigger also had it, and I love it to pieces. I wish more RPGs added similar elements, just to keep me awake when things get too routine.

You know, I'm wondering what franchise Square will lend its talents to next. First, Nintendo said "Hey, let's make an RPG. But... uh... we don't really know how to do it, so let's hire Square to make it for us." Then, Disney did the same thing with Kingdom Hearts -- Square took a bunch of unrelated stuff and made an awesome game out of it. Who will be the next to have their series summed-up in RPG form?

Y'know, I really should play through that game. Back when i was younger, I got a good idea of what each part of the game was like from watching people play and such, and though I knew enough about the game that it might have seemed like I'd played through it, I actually hadn't. The fact that it doesn't have tedious "bad spots", as Athenian mentioned, sounds like a very good thing. I've never played an RPG where there wasn't some part where I thought, "I've decided I'm never replaying this game, because I never want to have to go through that again.".

Super Mario RPG is brilliant. The only part I can think of that sucked was Grate Guy's Casino, only because I was expecting much more though.

Ah, Super Mario RPG, one of my most favorite RPG's of all time. It was witty, had a great battle system, and Booster, the tiki-faced psycho. laugh.gif Good times...

Well, maybe love's too much of a strong word for me, but Mallow was one of my favorite characters, seconded only by Bowser. Heh, he was great. *Runs off to play the game again*

the best part was that dude who had the tower, and he played with little mario and peach dolls, though i kept thinking wario would have been better for that part.

ya, he was cool, his name was booster and I think he was modeled after wario but they couldent put in wario cause he had his own world he was living in, there's mario land and than Wario world so it just wouldent work.

That reminds me. Maybe I'll go replay SMRPG. Bowser as a playable character was awesome! I wish yoshi was a playable character. Anyone remember the hidden Culex boss? He was supposed to be from a Final Fantasy game, but I can't think of which one? I think it's IV cuz the battle has IV's boss theme, but I don't remeber seeing Culex in IV. Also, at certain times you can find Samus and Link sleeping in the hotels.

Hmmm...I thought I heard somewhere that he was from an FF or another game. Oh well. Anyways, he and Smithy were practically impossible to beat without the Lazy Shell. I love that thing. The Culex battle takes like an hour to finish him but I love the music.
