I recall saying long ago that I thought it would be interesting if SE would give us both Ala Mhigo AND Doma in a single expansion, but it was dismissed by others saying that would be too much for a single expansion. After seeing the new full trailer... I am so excited to see my wish fulfilled!
  • 7thCircle7thCircle Proofer of the Realm RPGamer Staff
Seems like we'll also be going to Doma this expansion, I wonder how that will work.

We'll swim there! I wondered why swimming was added in Stormblood. Now we know.

Doma! And I saw Yugiri in the trailer, so yes! Love Yugiri.

Also samurai is DPS, but robe samurai = best samurai so that's cool.

Can't wait for those hour plus waits for those with dps characters

New patch out, immediately went and bought the play dead emote from the cash shop even though I'm not even subbed right now.
  • Jammy DodgerJammy Dodger New Member Full Members
When the patch launched, I perused the cash shop and found the two new emotes. I was dumbfounded. After accustoming myself to seeing mounts, seasonal items, and unique attire, I did a doubletake upon seeing emotes in the cash shop. It was probably an inevitability, but it's still a shock nonetheless. That said, the backflip looks meh, but that play dead emote... Ha!
  • 7thCircle7thCircle Proofer of the Realm RPGamer Staff
The thought of a backflipping lala white mage amuses me. But the play dead emote that looks like dead children is funny in a way too.

I'll scream this to the heavens.

I FINALLY GOT THE LATEST STAGE OF MY ANIMA WEAPON DONE. Cane of the White Tzar get!

Here's to hoping the rest of the steps to finish it won't take me months to get done. I'd like to get'er done before the expansion, plz. ^^

    Congratulations!

Not knowing anything about how or how often you play FF14, I'd guess if it took you a long time to finish the Cane of the White Tzar, it's going to take you months to get the complete anima weapon (which isn't the last step). It's a shorter step, but you only make progress when playing as a white mage in Heavensward content, and the progress moves very slowly unless you're intentionally grinding it. If it took you a long time to gather the tomes for the prior step, you aren't naturally playing FF14 in such a way that the "complete" step will move quickly.

But on the bright side, the Cane of the White Tzar looks much better than the complete anima weapon!

Farm A1S. If it's a window, you get maximum light bonus. If it's not, you'll get the 2nd highest amount. With good players, you'll be skipping most of the fight and can ignore mechanics, and the helper will come out constantly at around 5-15% HP. Meaning it's a pretty easy burn. Just be careful you don't push TOO hard, you don't want to kill the first one before the 2nd comes out.

I was guessing that if she didn't get the Cane of the White Tzar until now, and it look a long time, then she was probably not willing to grind dungeons/ARF hard for tomes and is not going to grind A1S hard either. Also, the A1S grind is not as fast as a healer since PF groups want more DPS. I ended up finding it faster to just use DF when I wanted to A1S grind, but it was boring and I ended up killing a few birds with one stone by running Void Ark when it was in bonus for a lot of my light.

I did it mostly doing roulettes/tombstones, tho at the last, I was buying materia to finish it. Just so you know, I try not to go too hard in this game; I'm half casual. (I try to do that every day, and I do casual raids once a week. So I prolly will be doing Void Ark.) Also I admit I took a few months off when I had a load of video games to play; trying not to do that now.

I'll look into that too when I get there. I have NOT done any savage on it though, ever. And since I do Void Ark anyway, that prolly won't be a big deal.

I got though that last stage pretty darned fast.

I now have a Sharpened Cane of the White Tzar, and working on pneumite. Not sure when I need to start gathering light.

The plan for the light is PVP, 60/expert roulette, and Void Ark. A1S if I can unlock it and find a group. I figure that should get it going pretty fast I hope.

Whew. After all the light grinding..and believe me, that was a month long grind..

    sindri.jpg

SINDRI GET. It's pretty but I can understand if other weapons look more impressive. Oh and a correction; the spirit isn't trapped in there. See that minion? It can inhabit that too.

Anyway I'm almost done with the last stage. Just waiting on some folks from a LS I'm in so we can smash though the last three primals; it's the warring triad btw. I've never done that so I'd rather have at least one friend that can explain mechs if I don't know. ^^

[EDIT] Thank you Hellz Taki for walking me though those primals!

    sindrilux.jpg

I'm glad I was able to get this done before the maint. Weap is not impressive but I'm sure this'll last me quite a while next month. ^^

Congrats! It's okay if you don't hate the look as much as I do, and I forgot about the minion, though I was in an exaggerating mood anyway.

I was thinking that if Stormblood starts at the same relative item level to HW that HW did to ARR, then the relic and melded 270 gear could hold up through half of the expansion easily.

Odds are it will. Meaning relics will last until level 56, and THEN be outclassed. But they should still be kept, they will probably be used to skip the first step of the new relics when they come.

FINAL FANTASY XIV Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XXXVI

I might do a news post tomorrow but because it was so goddam long here's my notes from the Letter from the Producer regarding Stormblood. Note: I probably got bored and missed various things during it. It was really -ing long.

    Current Issues
    - Overly complex
    - Too many actions, not enough hotbar space
    - Overemphasis on status icon management
    - Core vs. casual disparity (DPS)
    - Lack of synergy between jobs

    Additional Actions
    - Abolishing Additional Actions
    - Replacing with Role Actions (shared between roles: Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, Caster), some new/changed/renamed/removed - if removed they will be greyed-out on hotbar
    - No secondary class levels required for jobs (e.g. Paladin does not need lvl 15 Conjurer)

Healer damage calculation uses MND now (used to be INT) - effect of Cleric Stance will be changed

Job syngery - Balance to make melee DPS a bit more party-focused (Monk can raise party's physical damage and can gain some chakra if ally does something good, add debuffs for combos, pulled back some of the more overpowered combos).

    Job gauges (HUD)
    - New HUDs specialised for each job's unique actions
    - Increased stance visibility, emphasis on visual rather than numerical clues.
    - Hopefully remove extreme DPS disparity

    Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSdfPXFGuw0&feature=youtu.be
    Red Mage is Zorro.
    Bard has no casting.
Machinist has a heat gauge, attack while moving.
    Summoner has Bahamut.

    Job Action Adjustments
    - Removal of unused/underused actions
    - Automatic replacement of upgraded spells, only use one slot to cast all of them, auto-chooses version based on lvl/synced lvl.
    - AoE and single-target kept separate (i.e. Thunder & Thunder III in one, Thunder II & Thunder IV in another)

Total # of actions in 4.0 should be equal to or less than those in 3.0

Paladin can block magic attacks with shield

    Sub-attributes

Bard + Machinist no longer have cast gauges (caused big disparity between casuals and hardcore players)
Parry no longer on gear for tanks, replaced by new attribute called Tenacity (raises damage caused and lowers damage taken), Parry attribute still used in calc.
Accuracy no longer on gear. Same level char + same level monster, head-on attack and no statuses will be 100% accuracy.
Direct hit, somewhere between normal hit and critical hit? Can do both direct and critical in same attack.
Piety to become sub-attribute, I was bored here and missed what that actually means and most of the stuff that came after.
    Something about accessories.
Some other stuff I wasn't paying attention to, seemed boring.

    ---

    PvP Changes

Issues (I don't know what half of these mean):
    - Level restriction too high
    - Too many job actions
    - PvP not equal to PvE, makes balance hard
    - Action point disparity
    - Overly complex controls

    Changes:
    - Level restriction removal (any job, 30+)
    - Attributes determined by role, gear affects appearance only
    - PvP hotbars for each job

    - All PvP actions now PvP-specific (9 per job, 2 selectable, Adrenaline Rush); Allows to adjust w/o affecting PvE balance.
    - Direction requirements for melee DPS removed
    - Consolidated combos free up hotbar space

PvP demonstration video I didn't pay attention to.

    ---

^ Ooh. That will be great to use when Stormblood launches.

On a side note, apparently, I'll be away on a trip and not playing Stormblood until after its early access and June 20th launch. However, I look forward to seeing everyone ingame when I return! It's a good thing Shirogane housing plots won't open up for purchase until a bit later than launch. I'd hate to miss that.

subbed back in today. getting my bearings again, and about ready to dive into the main story (and the good substories, like Hildy!)

Was worried about having enough time to regear, but it looks like I have enough gil to save up to just buy an ilvl 250 set for both my main and fisher, with change to spare. Not sure if I'll spend the cash on fisher, since I doubt I'll be able to really get into the new stuff before Stormblood launches.
Maybe I'll log out and check my e-mail or something...

Depends on how you want to play it. It's a open game with hundreds of hours of optional things to do. My personal mindset is to do whatever seems fun regardless of whether you're pushing the main story forward or not. The 2.0 storyline is happy to send you back and forth across the world for little-to-no logical story reasons, solely to encourage you to take it easy and goof off with optional stuff. Some people want to try different jobs early on; some don't. Same with crafting, side quests, etc.

On the other hand, if you want to make as much progress as possible as quickly as possible, no, there's no real point in doing more than the main story. Further, rushing the main story will make doing optional stuff much less time-consuming later if you want to go back to it. It just depends on what you're trying to get out of the game. Rushing the story is the most practical, but probably the least fun, way to play it.

It was hell. I barely managed to get through the first choke before everybody got to the 2nd (after 3 hours of trying), and now I'm all the way at the Ruby Sea zone. No way around it, I got lucky as hell. SE needs to fix that, people shouldn't be locked out of all this stuff.
