Meaningless Dialogue and Role Play - Active Topical Banter

Scott WachterScott Wachter Dread News EditorRPGamer Staff
Dialogue in games is a bit like the jazz music in a few ways, mostly in that Scott is way more interested in it than the kids these days, but also in that improvisation is key but also may not matter.

Talking Points:
-Part 1 of ?? in which Scott explains how narrative video games are kinda like jazz
-East vs West
-Ifs and thens
-Slog factor
-Conversation choices that don’t ‘matter’ are more interesting to mull over than the ones that change the scope of the game
-Granularity of choice
-What constitutes what matters. New endings, different scene the warm fuzzy feeling you get when you pet that cat in shenmue?

I looked up the entry for "chuffa" on the Urban Dictionary website and immediately regretted it. The word has a second definition that I will not repeat here. I would personally advise not using the word at all, ever.

Everyone reading this has been duly warned.
