Only post every 5 minutes?

Lately, I've noticed that after reading a thread and wanting to reply in it, I get the message that I can't post yet, despite having read the thread for more than 30 seconds already. 30 seconds would be fine, it's the normal maximum speed you need to read&write anyway, however, the actual duration seems to be 300 seconds.

The message I get will look like the following:
This forum requires that you wait 30 seconds between posts. Please try again in 113 seconds.

    I've seen this occasionally, too. Sometimes it happens on my first post. I can't figure out the conditions to replicate that, and it doesn't happen often, so I've not worried myself. Good to know it's not just me, though.

    There is an intended lag between posts; in theory it gets longer the more you post closer together. The error message is definitely wrong -- it's longer than 30 seconds. I'll look into it.

    Can we decrease the time? It seems really high and it's somewhat stupid if you have to wait 2 minutes before you can proceed to the next thread for every single thread.

    No. It prevents spam, both from bots and from people who feel the need to crap out a post without putting thought into it.
