When I visit this site I get a pop up that hijacks my homepage to some random porn site. ?Please consult your ad partners and do something to correct this. ?It has happened twice tonight.

Pretty sure there's a security setting in IE somewhere that disables others' ability to change your homepage. I can't find it at the moment, but I don't have that problem. Are you using a pop up stopper? Google's toolbar has a decent and free pop up stopper on it.

You can at least update the IE software, can't you? If so, then I *think* there's a patch for IE on windowsupdate.com that takes care of unauthorized homepage hijacking. But yeah, if this is an ad on RPGamer that's doing this, and not spyware that's been installed on your computer something should be done about it for the kiddies that come to the site.

On a semi-unrelated note, when I browse the boards lately there's an ad or something that pops up a "you're about to view a secure page" or whatever. Odd.

Yeah, if your work computer is connected to the net (obviously) they have to allow you to at least run Windows Update. There's a lot of essential bug fixes, and security fixes that you might be missing.

Although RPGamer'll take a look at the matter, I feel very confident in saying that this is a malware program residing on your local machine rather than something RPGamer is serving, unless you're talking about the Cirque du Soleil advertisement, which is, well, not for porn.

Nope. I never even see the pop up. It flashes and next thing I know, my homepage is hijacked. I only encountered the pop up on this site. It didn't happen on any other page I visited.

The same thing happened to me too, when I was at work, and only when I was at rpgamer.

Pop-up ads isn't a great problem for me as I have pop-up stopper. What bugs me though is that the main page takes so darn long to load due to some ads. I encountewr a few add that freezes my computer for a few minutes as it "loads" its "trailer" right within the add. I can't do anything but to wait for the trailer to load during that time.

I am looking into it, but I haven't been able to reproduce it, so I am going to presume that there was a mistake on the ad server's part, and just send them a letter about it. If I do find it while searching, then I'll disable popups until I feel the problem is resolved.

I am also noticing that the cookies to only have one popup per client per day isn't working either. Grr..

I think it would be beneficial to SKIM a topic before you reply to it.

I had the same thing happen to me, as recently as two days ago. ?I've also been receiving spam email with "Rosewood" in the subject line, and this is the only board I currently post on where I have that username. ?It looks like this popup also releases spyware which tracks down your email in the profile, even when it's blocked from other users as mine is.

(I just set up the google pop-up blocker today, thanks for the heads-up everyone!)

Edit: It looks like the pop-up tries its thing when I post (not when browsing). When I first posted this message, it tried and was blocked by google. And now that I think about it, that instance from two days ago was also when I posted.

Lately while I'm browsing the RPGamer forums, I've been getting a slew of annoying popups that cover the entire screen (including the taskbar/start button) and won't go away unless I alt+f4 them. One time, I actually had a popup try to change my desktop background and eject my DVD tray. In each case, the ads were a scam to coerce me into downloading "security" software. I'm not normally one to complain about ads (I've been visiting OCR for years), but these ads on RPGamer are really irritating me.

    I'd bet ten bucks that:
A)Rpgamer is not associated with those ads.
B)You have an adware worm on your drive.
    OR
C)You are on an open network where those ads are being broadcast.

I have not, on any browser I've tried with or without pop-up protection seen a single ad fired from RPGamer to 'pop-up' in the forums. I'm almost certain they assume (rightfully so) that almost all of their traffic comes directly into the front page, making pop-ups elsewhere a bit pointless.

    EDIT:
Additionally, those 'worms' are running arbitrary code on your system or close enough if they are doing that. You are lucky one hasn't fragged your hard drive or something instead of just a pop out the dvd command.

Just out of intrest wouldn't it be worse to have your boss come along and accuse you of visiting porn sites than downloading protection software?

I don't get these ads browsing anywhere else, and I have ad aware 6 and McAfee antivirus. ?I've gotten these ads browsing RPGamer using two separate internet connections. ?Why the hell else would this stuff only pop up here?

The homepage hijacker is back again. ?It hijacked my homepage several time while I was checking out media for Tales of Rebirth.

    EDIT

I discovered the url of the pop-up and added it to my restricted sites list. ?The url is http://209.50.251.182 (do not, under any circumstances click on that link).

I'm allowing popups on my browser now to see if I get it.

I also edited the topic title. I understand the frustration, but gotta be uniform in the rule of 'bypassing' the filter. Don't consider this a warning, just me letting you know I did it.
